Every Sunday our apartment complex comes together for ward prayer. During these events we have announcements and an apartment introduces themselves and gives a spiritual thought and prayer. This last Sunday we were assigned to be that apartment. so we introduced ourselves by making up the 12 things you need to know about apartment 12. Then I gave the spiritual thought and prayer was given by our roommate, Mindy.

My spiritual thought…

Their used to be a professor at BYU that said that a number of people believed in Christ but didn’t believe Christ. These people know about the atonement but don’t believe that it is for them. The atonement was given to everyone. When most people think about the atonement they think it is just for repentance. Sure, we can’t be perfect and need Jesus Christ to take those sins from us. But it isn’t just for that. When he was in the garden, Gethsemane, he felt all of our pains and burdens. He alone knows exactly what we are feeling so when we are going through times of trial, why not get on our knees and reach out to him. About a year ago I had a close friend that passed away and that evening I was ready from Believing Christ by Stephen Robinson and their was a scripture that stood out to me…

Matt 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

This scripture gave me comfort then and does to this day. I may have my fair share (or not so fair share) of trials but no matter what, I can turn to Jesus Christ and he will be there for me. I challenge you to that you next time you are down to get on your knees and pray. Be honest about how you feel and ask for the strength to get through this life because it will be hard. but we can do it.
