Bah Bah Black Sheep, Have You Any Wool?

25 04 2009

My life today and for the next 5 days is sheep.  You laugh at me.  I’m not joking.

I will also admit.  the sheep weren’t black but I wanted to name the post after the nursery rhyme.

I got the job for the week because of a family we know.  My brother is best friends with the son of the other family and since I am home and not really working I am helping with the shearing of the sheep.

I had to be up at 5:30 this morning to go at 6.  We then drove out to the country and had to help round up the sheep and put them in a corral.  The next thing to do was sort them out by what color tag they were wearing.  The sheep went up a little ramp to the shearers where the wool was cut off.  We were given the wool and had to clean it.  Pretty much, we took out disgusting bits of wool and bits of blood and skin.  (I know, disgusting)  I then rolled up the wool and put it in a compressor.

It was rediculously windy today so by the time I got home I was covered in dust.  It was disgusting.

I just want everyone to remind me to never marry a farmer or rancher because I don’t want my life to be out on a farm or ranch my entire life.  I am more of a city girl for sure.

Day One of My Internship

23 04 2009

I am doing my first internship for my major for Pendleton Parks and Recreation (I am required to do 2 internships for my major).  I will do most of my time at the aquatic center with lifeguarding and swim lessons but I will help with other programs within the parks and rec field.  They had me work for a bit today.  That was really nice since the pool doesn’t open up for another month.

So they had me help teach gymnastics for a class of 4 year olds today.  Oh my goodness.  It was probably the cutest thing ever.  I had so much fun.  Sure, I am not a gymnast but I can function at the same level a four year old can do.  This is what we did…

Stretches- butterfly, snakes, gymnast legs and trains.
Obstacle Course- balance beam, somersaults, cartwheels, jumping board thing, saddle jumps, and leap jumps
Beam-somersault while holding onto the beam.

Seriously, I love my major and the work I will be doing in it.

The Craziest Week Ever

23 04 2009

I know I have not written in like 500 years but my life has been upside down for the last week. You laugh at me. I’m not joking. First of all… FINALS SUCK!!!!

I had last Wednesday and Thursday off to study.  I took Bio and Intro to Family Processes on Friday and then Family Rec and New Testament Saturday morning.  So 4 huge tests in a day and a half with studying in between each test.  I was ready to die.  As soon as I finished testing I had to pack up most of my stuff to check out Monday morning. (I left bathroom things like the shower curtain and I left things in the kitchen for the roommates to use until I come back in the fall.)

Monday morning was rediculous.  Like I didn’t get much sleep thanks to cleaning and packing and saying bye to people.  I was doing last minute cleaning before the manager showed up and my roommate calls me.  She had gotten in a car wreck on her way to work and she didn’t have her wallet with her so she was crying and freaking out.  Well the manager showed up while I was going through her room so I told him he would have to wait because my roommate needed me and that was more important to me at the time.  Its true though. My roommates are more important than having the apartment perfectly clean on time.  Well I went with amanda and helped her with stuff for her sister’s wedding and then we drove home.

I got home around 8:30 in the evening and one of my friends had planned a small surprise party for me coming home.  that was really sweet of him.  Sadly enough, his ex really ticked him off  so he wasn’t happy.  I didn’t help him much but I tried.

I have been trying to hang out with everyone.  It has been kinda stressful but a lot of fun at the same time.  I think with all of the time that I have been home, I have eaten one meal at home.  That is kinda sad.

You Know Enough

15 04 2009

in the spirit that finals are just around the corner, this conference talk came to mind.  (today was the last day of class so we have two days off and then finals start)  This is a talk given at the October 2008 General Conference by Elder Neil L. Andersen of the seventy. (now an apostle)

While we may have good days we also have our bad days where we may feel like it takes all of the energy in world to just keep going.  We may feel like God doesn’t love us or that we are alone.  We don’t know everything.  However, we know enough.  We know that we are all children of God.  Even a little child can understand that.  It is our adults minds that try to not understand that.

Anderson says, “Our spiritual journey is the process of a lifetime.  We do not know everything in the beginning or even along the way.  Our conversion comes step-by-step, line upon line,.  We first build a foundation of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ…”  I know we have our doubts but as we strive to learn what we can and remember what we already know, we can build on that sturdy foundation and be a better person.

One last quote that I liked was “Challenges, difficulties, question, doubts–these are part of our mortality.  But we are not alone.  As disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, we have enormous spiritual reservoirs of light and truth available to us.  Fear and faith cannot coexist in our hearts at the same time.  In our days of difficulty, we choose the road of faith.  Jesus said, Be not afraid, only believe.”

I just want to say that we need to make that choice to have faith.  We know enough and everything will turn out just fine.  I know I am a bit scared of finals but I have put effort into this for 4 months and I know enough to pass.  I may not get straight A’s but is that what is important.  No, I won’t be remembering every test when I am 84.  What is really important is growing as a person and growing closer to our father in heaven.  We can reach our goals with his help.  This is more important than any test.  I know enough.  I know that I have a father in heaven that loves me and I know that finals week is only a small moment in the whole scheme of things.  I encourage you to take this as food for thought.  “Be not afraid, only believe.”

Deals Made by My Mom

10 04 2009

So the plan was that my mom was going to come get me after finals were over.  She would leave right after work on Thursday and come for me.  She doesn’t like making the drive in one day so she stops at Twin Falls to spend the night.  Therefore, she would only be in Utah for like a day before heading back.

My mom knew I had a friend that would be driving through so she decided to make it worth my time to get a ride so she wouldn’t have to spend the money or time to come get me.  She made me a deal that if I got a ride home then she would pay for my plane ticket down to Los Angeles this summer.  She knew I wanted to go down and visit the cousins but I didn’t really have the money to spend on a plane ticket.  But if I didn’t get the ride she would be fine coming to get me.

I think I will go down to Los Angeles early August because Laura’s daughter will be getting baptized so their whole family will be down there and I would love to see them along with everyone else.

Well, I am going home with Amanda and we are checking out on the 19th of April.  We will leave the next day after staying the night with her relatives so I will be home on the 20th.  It is exciting to go home but I will miss people here.  I will definitely miss Alicia.  She is my buddy for watching Veronica Mars and we cook together.  Because she won’t be here in the fall I will have to make new traditions with BreeAnn (Alicia’s little sister).  and I will have a car so I can always go visit Alicia.

Something Dear to Me

9 04 2009

Do you have any worldly possession that you really love.  I am sure it has a story behind it.  I just want to encourage you to think about what made that thing special and find a way to honor it.

I am the oldest child in my family.  When I was born, my dad got my mom a ring to celebrate their new family.  It is a gold band with a saphire (my birthstone) in the middle and little diamonds around it.  Growing up, I never knew about this ring.  On my 18th birthday my mom gave me that ring.  She thought I would lose it like I do with every small thing I own (chapstick, earrings, socks, pencils)  but I still have that ring and it has been two and a half years since I received it.

It kinda looks like this ring except that it has a gold band.

I hope that when I someday have my own children, I will have at least one little girl.  She will have my ring when she turns 18.
