Finding Relief from Entrapment

18 12 2010

Does anyone remember how I posted some quotes from a book I was reading?  Well, with how crazy school has been I went ahead and put it down.  Finals are done so I am bringing it back for your enjoyment.  Today is Chapter Three.

~*~Finding Relief from Entrapment~*~

“The truth is that loving oneself–and one’s body–is a discipline all its own.  It means challenging the images that the fashion industry has foisted on us.  It means ignoring the voices that tell us that being healthy is a distant second to being thin.”

“Satan has filled the world with lies and deceptions about the body.  He tempts many to defile this great gift of the body through unchastity, immodesty, self indulgence, and addictions.  He seduces some to despise their bodies; others he tempts to worshit their bodies.  In either case, he entices the world to regard the body merely as an object.”

“Change can happen, even one tiny step at a time.”

“What a bright spot in a world filled with sorrow and uncertainty, to understand the love and constancy that Jesus demonstrated in His atoning sacrifice and in carrying out the Father’s will.  It is assuring also to know that in the extremity of His suffering, “There appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him ” (Luke 22:43) Though it may not be an angel that will comfort and sustain us, we can also receive divine strength in our personal struggles.”

Ransom Notes, Part 2

16 12 2010

So Nate came over last night to read us his poem.  He planned with Christina for 9:00 pm so all of the roommates were told to be home for it.  He wore a costume (the snuggie made for him by Jill and me) and he even printed the poem out on cardstock.  Here is the Poem he shared with us.

For Ransom

R is for Remarkable

A trustworthy person you have become
Friends come to you, and not only some
Despite your own problems you lend a hand
And people all know you are splendidly grand.

O is for Observant

On occasions we like to spend time
And though what we say might not always rhyme
You always remember all of my thoughts
Filling in our remembrances with tiny dots.

B is for Brave

A spider’s bite is all it took
To put you in a crazy whirl
But soon we found by hook or by crook
The resiliency of this noteworthy girl.

I is for Intelligent

Whilst I, with a jet of blue
Dueled I with an Orr
The sacred writ that left my hand
Was held hostage quite un-hoped for.

N is for Nice

The sugar that I indubitably ignore
Of which thou dost know that I adore
Sugar-free brownies were made for me
And my craving was set free.

Ransom Notes

14 12 2010

Oh goodness, we have had some fun around here.

On Sunday, I was sitting with a boy in Sacrament Meeting (I’m not explaining that quite yet.  I don’t know what is going on entirely).  After Sacrament Meeting, Nate kidnapped me and had me go to Sunday School with him.  I ended up stealing his scriptures.  He knew I had them.  He still had the case, I just had the scriptures.  He never came to get them that day.  My guess is that he figured I would just give them back.  Forget that.  That night I wrote him a ransom note.  It said…

Dear Nate, if you ever want to see your scriptures again call ###-###-#### at 7:00 pm to negotiate terms.  From Evil Bird.

He called us exactly at 7:00 and he asked what we were asking of him for the ransom.  We asked what he was willing to give us and he said that conform to our terms.  That is kinda dangerous.  But we ended up telling him that he was going to write me a poem, 5 verses long, it has to be satisfactory to my roommates, he must read it outloud with feeling, and it must be done before he gets the scriptures back.

To be continued…

Busy Weekend

5 12 2010

Dude, why is life so stressful sometimes.  but here we go,

Friday

  • opened at work 9:30-1:00
  • supposed to have a group project meeting but was canceled.
  • a friend was having a rough day so we went to eat at Olive Garden.  (I had a gift card from my birthday.)
  • That friend came over to do homework with me, but we ended up talking more.
  • Actually did homework.
  • Apartment 316 had a mocktail party.  All of the drinks were non-alcoholic, but I had a pina colada, strawberry daiquiri, butterbear, and another strawberry lime thing.
  • Another friend texted me and really needed me right then so I dropped everything to go over to her place and just love her.
  • Went to bed.

Saturday

  • Christina, Jackie, and I all went to Holly’s basketball game.  We won.  The next game is Tuesday evening.
  • Just a few minutes after getting home, Allison, an old roommate of mine, texted me to ask if I could line judge her volleyball game.  They had 2 games.  The first we won, the second we lost.  Because they aren’t allowed to wear jewelry during play, I got to wear a wedding ring.
  • Took a nap because I was really tired.
  • Work 4:30-9:00.  It was a really busy day so it was fun.  Slowed down a lot by the end though.
  • Eimi and I went to get groceries.
  • Nate called and asked to watch Just Visiting with me, so we did that and chatted a bit.
  • baked some cookies

Sunday

  • I was tempted to wake up early and curl my hair.  However, I decided sleep was more important.
  • Went to church.  I bore my testimony in sacrament meeting.
  • I was asked to go into work for a few hours and clean.  Our regional manager is coming in to visit so we had some cleaning to do.  Fun stuff.
  • Break the Fast.  (for those not mormon, it was pretty much dinner with church people)
  • Watched the Christmas devotional.  I did homework while listening.
  • attempting to do homework.  I did finish the powerpoint for a presentation tomorrow, complete with a video clip.

I still need to get stuff done and finals are in about a week so it means a lot of studying.  arg.  I’m ready to be done.

The Christmas Season is upon us

3 12 2010

I want to share some of my favorite Christmas things in the next little bit.  Today is one of my favorite Christmas songs.  I never knew the song existed until my senior year of high school.  I was in Jazz Band and one of the boys had told Mr. Cary that he wanted to play this piece.  Therefore, Mr. Cary made a way for us to perform it.  I was the piano and totally fell in love with the music and then the lyrics.

Mary, did you know?
That your baby boy
Would one day
Walk on water?
Mary, did you know?
That your baby boy
Would save our sons
And daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy
Has come
To make you new?
This child
That you deliver
Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know?
That your baby boy
Would give sight
To a blind man?
Mary, did you know?
That your baby boy
Would calm a storm
With his hands?
Did you know
That your baby boy
Has walked
Where angels trod?
And when you kissed
Your little baby
You kissed
The face of God
Oh, Mary
Did you know?
Mary, did you know?

The blind will see
The deaf will hear
The dead
Will live again
The meek will lead
The dumb will speak
The praises of a man

Oh
Mary, did you know?
That your baby boy
Is Lord
Of all creation?
Mary, did you know?
That your baby boy
Would one day
Rule the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy
Was heaven’s
Perfect lamb?
That the
Sleeping child
You’re holding
Is the great I am?

Oh, Mary, oh
